The UAE National Day is celebrated on every 2nd of December to mark the union of the six emirates, Abu Dhabi (the capital), Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain in 1971. It was followed by the joining of the seventh emirate, Ras Al Khaimah, in 1972. Grand celebrations are held across the country to mark the event.
